The job
The parquet was worn and dark but still sound, so rather than rip it up the new floor went over it. SPC, stone plastic composite, is rigid, waterproof, termite-proof and scratch-resistant, and it clicks together without glue, so the bedrooms and landing were done in days rather than weeks.
The only levelling needed was at the old thresholds. The stair treads were left in their original timber, with a clean edge where the two floors meet.
